The purpose of ncftpget is to do file transfers from the command-line without entering an interactive shell. This lets you write shell scripts or other unattended processes that can do FTP. It is also useful for advanced users who want to retrieve files from the shell com- mand line without entering an interactive FTP program such as ncftp. This lets you write shell scripts or other unattended processes that can do FTP. The default behavior is to print the directory listing in columnized format (i.e. ls -CF), but that is not very use- ful for scripting. For example, if you are sending a text file from a UNIX system to a Windows-based host, you could use the -a flag which would use ASCII transfer mode so that the file created on the Windows machine would be in its native text format instead of the UNIX text format. You can upload an entire directory tree of files by using the -R flag. Example: For example, to create a bookmark for ftp://ftp.remotehost.com which includes the login information we would run: lftp :~> bookmark remotehost ftp://ouruser:ourpassword@ftp.remotehost.com. As you see, we provided the password for the authentication in the remote machine as part of the URL to be used with the bookmark. Bookmarking $ ncftp $ open -u username ftp.host.com $ bookmark bookmarkname Mass download $ ncftpget -R bookmarkname /www/ . Mass upload $ ncftpput -R bookmarkname /www/ . Linux / Unix ncftp: Upload Directory Tree To Remote FTP… How to recursively go through all local or remote… Download and install an RPM file on fly from ftp or http… For example, if you are sending a text file from a UNIX system to a Windows-based host, you could use the -a flag which would use ASCII transfer mode so that the file created on the Windows machine would be in its native text format instead of the UNIX text format.
